Workshop Solar Installation – Investing in a Sustainable Future At Sutton Engineering Group.

Reduce

We are always looking for practical ways to improve the way we operate. One of our latest investments has been the installation of a 66kW commercial solar system at our St Marys facility, comprising of 110 high efficiency solar panels. Combined with the transition to energy efficient LED lighting throughout our workshop and office facilities, these improvements help reduce our reliance on grid power and the environmental impact of our manufacturing operations.

The system is expected to generate around 86.4 MWh of renewable electricity each year and preventing an estimated 86.5 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.

Over the life of the system that’s the equivalent of:

  • Planting approximately 16,631 trees
  • Avoiding around 2.59 million kilometres of vehicle travel
  • Offsetting the emissions from more than 1851 long haul flights

It’s a long term investment that not only helps reduce our environmental impact but also supports a more efficient and sustainable future for our business.

While heavy manufacturing will always require significant resources, we believe small changes across our workshop and office can make a meaningful difference.

Reuse and Recycle

Finding ways to extend the life of materials is an important part of reducing waste and making better use of available resources.

  • Reusing pallets and packaging received from suppliers
  • Transitioning to recycled workshop rags and towelling supplied through St Vincent de Paul, giving textiles that can no longer be sold a second life in our workshop.

We actively separate and recycle materials generated through our manufacturing and office operations to help minimise waste sent to landfill.

  • Steel offcuts are separated by material type and recycled.
  • Cardboard and plastic packaging are collected, reused or recycled.
  • Recycled office paper and paper towel products are used throughout our workshop.
